Company History

1828

The Reichard brothers built the sawmill in Petersburg ON just southwest of Kitchener (at the time
Berlin.) Steam powered, line and shaft with circular blade.

1851

John Walter built the first sawmill in the south, upriver, branch of the Big Head river now called Walter’s creek on the 300 acres he bought the previous year which is now the hamlet of Walters Falls.

1878

John S Hallman purchased the Reichard mill in Petersburg and it was operated by his son Jacob C Halllman.

1868

Richard Olmstead purchased from the Walter family the sawmill property then proceeded to build a new sawmill on the crest of the escarpment.

1944

In the spring of the year Gordon Hallman bought the Walters Falls sawmill.

1967

The company with both mills was incorporated as Willard G Hallman Lumber Ltd.

1981

David Calford joins the family business, Citra-mix, in food processing/manufacturing supplying the powdered food products industry, for 2 years.

1983

David Calford joins the sales force in the family business.

1984

The Walters Falls sawmill was destroyed by fire. A large crowd watched the blaze of the 90 year old wood constructed mill. The light of the fire could be seen from as far away as Chatsworth.

1985

Construction is underway for the new sawmill.

1985

Dave Calford elevates to corporate sales services companies such as Miracle, Steinburg, Loblaw’s, K-Mart, Sobeys, National Grocers, and IGA.

1986

The rebuilt Walters Falls sawmill began operation, on a site just south of the original. This mill is the operation currently in use.

1991

Dave Calford joins sales force at Bayfield Auto sales, and elevated to top salesman, Sales Manager, then Head of Wholesale department, responsible for two salesmen.

1995

Paul W Hallman begins working with his father John W in operations of sawmill business.

2001

Dave Calford sets up landscaping supply yard in Shanty Bay, John Eisen Stone Products, still operating successfully today.

2004

La-Z-Boy hires Dave Calford directly to head floor manager for the Mississauga store, responsible for a sales staff in excess of 30 people.

2005

After 3 years construction by John Dwayne Hallman, brother-in-law Brian McKibbon and father John W The Falls Inn & Spa opens for business.

2005

David Calford began a retail firewood yard and wood delivery business in Barrie, formerly known as “The Wood Guyz”, now known as Redi 2 Burn.  They have been serving their loyal clients in the Simcoe County area ever since and are expanding throughout Southern Ontario.

2008

While running his firewood business, Dave began and developed a 50,000 ton per year Wood Pellet operation in Dundalk which is still operating and successful today.

2017

Dave Calford and Paul Hallman founded Hallman Wood Products Inc., incorporating the Redi 2 Burn service, reprocessing wood facility and expanding into specialty firewood and chips for the heating and food markets.
